Cabin in the Woods-A Unexpected Meal

I've always found it interesting when your just going about your day and bam! you're sitting down eating this amazing unexpected homemade meal. Usually this meal is a specialty of somebodies family or your friends first dish they learned to cook on their own. Through perfecting and tweaking this dish comes as a explosive kick to the face. That to me is what Cabin in the Woods was.

Cabin in the Woods boasts one well known actor Chris Hemsworth and four others who are used as fodder for the chopping block. It was released in April of 2012 as is 1 of three movies Chris Hemsworth(Avengers, Snow White and the Huntsman) starred in this year that were released in succeeding months. He has a large role but nonetheless his appearance was not the main attraction for me.

Joss Whedon(also director of Avengers) directed this movie back in 2009. He is most known for his work on TV with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and several other shows(Dollhouse, Firefly). I knew his gory humor would shine in this movie and I was not let down. Having heard early on that the movie was a satire of the horror industry, yet the plot was kept in shadow, I knew there would be something there for me to enjoy.

As stated before this movie was kept on the shelf for 3 years before it was released. Evidently it had some problems getting picked up by a distributor that thought it was worth it. The studio however had already put a sizable amount of money into it and wanted to see the results back into their bank accounts. In my opinion they released it at a good time because Chris Hemsworth was on a press high for notoriety involving Avengers and so was Joss Whedon. The movie unfortunately didn't get enough press or critical acclaim so it fell to the wayside.

The movies main premise is: 5 college kids head off to stay at a Cabin in the Woods and must fight through the night to stay alive against almost insurmountable terror.

This plot has been used more times then we care to remember which is why audiences didn't want to see it. What lies at the end of the movie is the true genius. All of the satire and head games in previous movies never prepared the audience for what the movie spins into. The secret behind the Cabin in the Woods is where all of the fun is.

My unexpected meal came swift and unrelenting and for the MovieHoova thats always a tasty treat.

Jackass 3D-SnackSize

Jackass 3D came out in theaters October 15 2010. This movie boasts a cast most fans will know very well featuring Johnny Knoxville our hilarious host, Bam Margera, Steve-o, Ryan Dunn, Weeman, Preston Lacy, Chris Pontius, Dave Englund and Ehren McGhehey. These guys are rippin it up from their imaginative use of paintball guns, silly glue, roller skates, wheelbarrows, apples, body paint, bees, and more.

This movie isnt as funny as the older ones but what it lacks in hilarity it makes up for in pure stupidity. If they are using their butts to either hold something or shoot something they are getting other people to do it. This movie form e was mostly gross then anything else. Constantly i was amazed by the level sure willingness to either  be around someone while they are doing a stunt involving their bodily fluids or swallow someone elses bodily fluids. Either way I was grossed out half the movie. There were some goods gross scenes like when one of the boys gets his tooth pulled out in a very dramatic way. That scene was awesome from a filming angle, but it was also followed up by a punchline.

Johnny Knoxville brought back his old man character for another few good laughs. They intro him by using the black eyed peas song boom boom pow to pace a series of pranks played on different people, including public defecation, scooters with hydraulics and air-horns, grandfather/granddaughter make out scenes, needless to say you will LOL. But they follow this up by having him steal a motorcycle from a dealership. I wont say what happened but i wasn't expecting what occurred.

So would I watch this movie again? Probably not too soon just because it wasn't something I feel compelled to watch again a second time, if I do decide to watch it I will definitely be fast forwarding through some scenes.

Am I Glad I watched it? Of course for the MovieHoova enjoys a good snack.

Introduction

My name is Holly H. and I've always loved movies. Ever since I was a child I would just watch movie after movie after movie with such insatiable hunger. I was inhaling the films. They were my bread and butter or better yet pb&j. As I grew up my passion changed, morphed and faded but has recently come back with full force. I can't help but feel a compulsion to watch films I hear about. Some people can't watch a movie every day. They don't have the patience or the drive. I'm lucky because I have extreme laziness on my side.

(a picture from a shoot I did back in film school)

I would call myself a movie buff but I don't think am as juiced up as I should be. So this blog is a declaration of my dedication to committing to watching over 250+ films and along my way hopefully giving you some insight as to whether or not you should rent, buy, download, or stream such movies. As a guide through the perils of picking such movies I have gone to a favorite site of mine and found a list of 250 movies that are the highest rated by the users of the website. IMDB's top 250

The internet movie database will be a point of reference as it holds nearly all important information involving movies and nearly all new release information such as premier trailers and photo ops. It also holds rare trivia and factoids involving such films. If you have never used this site before I incline you to take a look and prepare to fall in love.

I will take reccommendations and try to fufill them. A lot of big heavy hitters you'll be expecting me to review I've already seen and have had time to make my own biases and be influenced by others so I probably won't review them. This is about seeing things and discovering them for the first time. For the MovieHoova hungers for new blood not hott blood clotty messes.

I will try my darndest NOT to spoil anything so this is going to be a tricky blog.  Come with me on my journey to finally feel full.........on movies.
