Cabin in the Woods-A Unexpected Meal
I've always found it interesting when your just going about your day and bam! you're sitting down eating this amazing unexpected homemade meal. Usually this meal is a specialty of somebodies family or your friends first dish they learned to cook on their own. Through perfecting and tweaking this dish comes as a explosive kick to the face. That to me is what Cabin in the Woods was.
Cabin in the Woods boasts one well known actor Chris Hemsworth and four others who are used as fodder for the chopping block. It was released in April of 2012 as is 1 of three movies Chris Hemsworth(Avengers, Snow White and the Huntsman) starred in this year that were released in succeeding months. He has a large role but nonetheless his appearance was not the main attraction for me.
Joss Whedon(also director of Avengers) directed this movie back in 2009. He is most known for his work on TV with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and several other shows(Dollhouse, Firefly). I knew his gory humor would shine in this movie and I was not let down. Having heard early on that the movie was a satire of the horror industry, yet the plot was kept in shadow, I knew there would be something there for me to enjoy.
As stated before this movie was kept on the shelf for 3 years before it was released. Evidently it had some problems getting picked up by a distributor that thought it was worth it. The studio however had already put a sizable amount of money into it and wanted to see the results back into their bank accounts. In my opinion they released it at a good time because Chris Hemsworth was on a press high for notoriety involving Avengers and so was Joss Whedon. The movie unfortunately didn't get enough press or critical acclaim so it fell to the wayside.
The movies main premise is: 5 college kids head off to stay at a Cabin in the Woods and must fight through the night to stay alive against almost insurmountable terror.
This plot has been used more times then we care to remember which is why audiences didn't want to see it. What lies at the end of the movie is the true genius. All of the satire and head games in previous movies never prepared the audience for what the movie spins into. The secret behind the Cabin in the Woods is where all of the fun is.
My unexpected meal came swift and unrelenting and for the MovieHoova thats always a tasty treat.
Bonapetite :D
